Weaver's Memory

Duration: 1 hour


Location: Museum of Weaving and Silk


Goals :
- Listen to the testimony of a professional weaver
- Understand the work of the weaver, the different weaving trades, the pace of work
- Discover the evolution of the weaver's work

Contents:
- Interview with a weaver
- Questions asked about the weaver's trade, its developments, the organization of
his days, his working time, the type of fabric produced, ... and the taking of notes of the answers
- Free questions
- Observation of the looms in operation

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Weaving and its techniques

Duration: 1 hour


Location: Museum of Weaving and Silk


Goals :
- Find out where the silk thread comes from
- Learn the techniques of weaving
- Understand the evolution of weaving


Contents:
- History of weaving and its specificities in the Morning Mountains
- Explanation of the silkworm cycle and the unwinding of the cocoon to obtain the silk thread
- Explanation of the basics of weaving and Jacquard mechanics
- Observation of working looms, from the oldest (1850) to the most modern (2000)

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

A site witness to the industrial revolution

Duration: 2h


Location: Weaving and Silk Museum and village


Goals :
- Understand the history of weaving in the Morning Mountains
- Learn the techniques of weaving and its evolutions
- Study the industrial revolution through the architecture of the factories in the village and their operation

Content
- Guided tour of the museum with observation of the looms in operation, from the oldest (1850) to the most modern (2000)
- Visit of the village through its industrial architecture to better understand the progress generated by the Industrial Revolution, especially in the textile sector
- Challenge: students must take a photo of a list of architectural elements

Weaving today: visit to a company

Duration: 2h


Location: Weaving and Silk Museum and textile company


Goals :
- Understand the history of weaving in the Morning Mountains
- Learn the techniques of weaving and its evolutions
- Discover today's weaving and how it works through a visit to a high-end weaving company *
* subject to company availability

Content
- Guided tour of the museum with observation of the looms in operation, from the oldest (1850) to the most modern (2000) (see workshop Weaving and its techniques)
- Visit of a high-end weaving factory

Upcycling : la nouvelle vie des textiles

Nouveau en 2023

Durée : 2h


Lieu : Musée du Tissage et de la Soierie et entreprise textile


Objectifs :
- Comprendre ce qu'est l'upcycling, notamment dans le secteur textile

- Appréhender différents projets d'entreprises textiles en matière d'upcycling
- Apprendre à créer un objet upcyclé (tote-bag ou tawashi)

Contenu
- Visite guidée de l'exposition temporaire "Upcycling : la nouvelle vie des textiles"
- Atelier upcycling (création de tote-bag ou de tawashi), en partenariat avec la Ressourcerie des Monts du Lyonnais*
